Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, the Committee commenced its study of the situations in Somalia, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Marc-André Fredette made a statement and, with Nicolas Simard, answered questions.

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:51 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the Subcommittee on International Human Rights' study of the human rights situation in Democratic Republic of the Congo, the proposed budget in the amount of $7,300.00, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the Subcommittee on International Human Rights' briefing on the human rights situation in Iran, the proposed budget in the amount of $6,300.00, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the Subcommittee on International Human Rights' briefing on the human rights situation in Ukraine, the proposed budget in the amount of $500.00, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Canada’s sovereignty in the Arctic, the proposed budget in the amount of $150,030.95, for the Committee’s travel to Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Iqaluit, Nunavut and Cambridge, Nunavut, in fall 2018, be adopted.

At 4:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
