Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, the Committee commenced its study of the situation in Eastern Europe and Central Asia 25 years after the end of the Cold War.

Leigh Sarty and Kevin Rex made statements and answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the Subcommittee on International Human Rights' study of Yezidis, Christians and Other Religious and Ethnic Minorities in Syria and Iraq, the proposed budget in the amount of $5,900.00 be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the Subcommittee on International Human Rights' study of the Situation of Human Rights Defenders, the proposed budget in the amount of $2,200.00 be adopted.

At 4:25 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed in public and televised.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, April 14, 2016, and section 20 of the Freezing Assets of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Freezing Assets of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act and the Special Economic Measures Act.

Garry Kasparov and Irwin Cotler made statements and answered questions.

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
