Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h)(vi) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Drew McArthur, by videconference from Victoria, British Columbia, Jill Clayton, by videoconference from Edmonton, Alberta, and Cynthia Chassigneux, by videoconference from Montréal, Quebec, made statements and, with Michael McEvoy, by videoconference from Victoria, British Columbia, answered questions.

At 4:30 p.m., Nathaniel Erskeine-Smith took the Chair.

At 4:38 p.m., Blaine Calkins took the Chair.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 35,150.00 for the study of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee and Analysts, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a draft travel itinerary for the Committee as part of its study of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That time be put aside by the Committee to invite representatives from the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) in order to discuss recent events surrounding FINTRAC’s refusal, following an access to information request, to disclose the name of a Canadian bank that was fined.

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
