Pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the request by four members of the Committee the situation surrounding investigations into the activities of the Member for Brampton East.

Motion

Peter Kent moved, — That the Committee hold a briefing with the Clerk of the Privy Council, Michael Wernick, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, Katie Telford, and political advisor to the Prime Minister, Gerald Michael Butts, to testify as to whether what they know about the Grewal scandal, when they were first contacted with respect to the RCMP investigation into Mr. Grewal, and why they failed to disclose these details to the Canadian public.

Amendment

Charlie Angus moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, Katie Telford, and political advisor to the Prime Minister, Gerald Michael Butts, to testify as to whether what they know about the Grewal scandal, when they were first contacted with respect to the RCMP investigation into Mr. Grewal, and why they failed to disclose these details to the Canadian public” with the words “to testify as to whether what he knows about the Grewal scandal, when he was first contacted with respect to the RCMP investigation into Mr. Grewal, and why he failed to disclose these details to the Canadian public”.

The question was put on the amendment of Charlie Angus and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 0.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Committee hold a briefing with the Clerk of the Privy Council, Michael Wernick, to testify as to whether what he knows about the Grewal scandal, when he was first contacted with respect to the RCMP investigation into Mr. Grewal, and why he failed to disclose these details to the Canadian public.

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 5.

At 12:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
