The House resumed consideration of the motion of Ms. Guay (Rivière-du-Nord), seconded by Mr. Vincent (Shefford), — That Bill C-306, An Act respecting the use of government contracts to promote economic development, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates.

The debate continued.

The question was put on the motion and, pursuant to Standing Order 93(1), the recorded division was deferred until Wednesday, October 21, 2009, immediately before the time provided for Private Members' Business.

Mr. Guimond (Rimouski-Neigette—Témiscouata—Les Basques), seconded by Mr. Bouchard (Chicoutimi—Le Fjord), moved, — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should act urgently to provide the forestry industry, which has been hit hard by the economic crisis, with assistance which is similar to that given to the automotive industry concentrated in Ontario, and primarily through tax credits, loans and loan guarantees so that companies have immediate access to cash, and tax measures for private woodlot owners.
