The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met in a televised session at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, Ed Komarnicki, Hoang Mai, David J. McGuinty, Larry Miller, Isabelle Morin, Mike Sullivan, Jeff Watson, Wai Young and David Yurdiga.

 

Acting Members present: Claude Gravelle for Isabelle Morin.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Philippe Méla, Legislative Clerk. Library of Parliament: Zachary Alaoui, Analyst; Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Joyce Bateman, M.P., Winnipeg South Centre. Canadian National Railway Company: Jim Vena, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer; Sean Finn, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Services and Chief Legal Officer; Michael Farkouh, Vice-President, Safety and Sustainability.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, January 27, 2015, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-627, An Act to amend the Railway Safety Act (safety of persons and property).
 

Joyce Bateman made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 12, 2015, the Committee proceeded to a briefing of the Canadian National Railway Company on recent derailments in Ontario.
 

Jim Vena made a statement and, with Sean Finn and Michael Farkouh, answered questions.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
