The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Daryl Kramp, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Hon. Wayne Easter, Ted Falk, Randall Garrison, Roxanne James, Daryl Kramp, Rick Norlock, LaVar Payne and Jean Rousseau.

Appearing: Hon. Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2015-16: Votes 1 and 5 under CANADA BORDER SERVICES AGENCY, Vote 1 under CANADIAN SECURITY INTELLIGENCE SERVICE, Vote 1 under CIVILIAN REVIEW AND COMPLAINTS COMMISSION FOR ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE, Votes 1 and 5 under CORRECTIONAL SERVICE OF CANADA, Vote 1 under OFFICE OF THE CORRECTIONAL INVESTIGATOR, Vote 1 under PAROLE BOARD OF CANADA, Votes 1 and 5 under PUBLIC SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, Votes 1, 5 and 10 under ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE, Vote 1 under ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE EXTERNAL REVIEW COMMITTEE and Vote 1 under SECURITY INTELLIGENCE REVIEW COMMITTEE, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.
 

The Chair calls Vote 1 under CANADA BORDER SERVICES AGENCY.

 

The Minister made a statement, and with Bob Paulson answered questions.

 

At 9:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

On motion of Roxanne James, it was agreed that the committee take up Committee Business in camera as its next order of business, this day.

 

Witnesses answered questions.

 

At 10:18 a.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

At 10:20 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:22 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee Business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security begin its study of Bill C-637, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (firearms storage and transportation), at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015; that the sponsoring Member, Mr. Robert Sopuck, MP, be invited to appear before the committee for one (1) hour to begin the study; that there be one (1) additional meeting with up to two (2) panels and up to three (3) witnesses per panel; that the Committee proceed to clause by clause study of the bill no later than 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26th; and, that members submit lists of requested witnesses to the Clerk of the Committee by 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 .

 

At 10:26 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:27 a.m., the sitting resumed in a televised session.
