The Standing Committee on National Defence met in a televised session at 3:58 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Peter Kent, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Corneliu Chisu, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Hon. Peter Kent, Jean-François Larose, Joyce Murray, Rick Norlock and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Sylvain Chicoine for Élaine Michaud.

 

Associate Members present: Tarik Brahmi.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Jessica Kulka, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Martin Auger, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: RAdm Gilles Couturier, Director General, International Security Policy; Col Mark Gendron, Deputy Judge Advocate General, Operations; MGen Michael Hood, Director of Staff, Strategic Joint Staff.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on Canada’s Response to ISIL.
 

MGen Michael Hood made a statement.

 

RULING BY THE CHAIR

Based on the principle stated in the Committee's routine motion adopted on November 5, 2013, that “each Committee member should have a full opportunity to question the witness(es)”, the member for Repentigny will be allowed five (5) minutes, at the end of the second round, to question the witnesses.

 

The witnesses answered questions.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
