The Standing Committee on Health met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room C-120, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Ben Lobb, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Libby Davies, Hon. Hedy Fry, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, James Lunney, Dany Morin, Isabelle Morin, David Wilks and Terence Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals Canada: Cameron Bishop, Director, Government Affairs and Health Policy. Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police: Mark Mander, Chair, Drug Abuse Committee. Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services: Roger Skinner, Regional Supervising Coroner, Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the Government's role in addressing prescription drug abuse.
 

Cameron Bishop and Chief Mander, and Dr. Skinner by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:29 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:31 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee analysts draft a report on the Committee's current study on the federal government’s role in addressing prescription drug abuse;

That this report focus on the three (3) areas identified in the Committee’s motion to begin this study;

That this report provide recommendations on the Government’s Throne Speech commitment to address prescription drug abuse; and

That this draft report be distributed to Committee members on or before Friday, February 21st, 2014.

 

At 10:39 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
