The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Mike Allen, Hon. Scott Brison, Guy Caron, Nathan Cullen, Gerald Keddy, James Rajotte, Murray Rankin, Andrew Saxton and Dave Van Kesteren.

Acting Members present: Matthew Dubé for Nathan Cullen.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst ; Michaël Lambert-Racine, Analyst.

Witnesses: Alzheimer Society of Canada: Jim Mann, Member, Board of Directors. Indspire: Roberta Jamieson, President and Chief Executive Officer. Mitacs: Graham Carr, Member, Vice-President, Research and Graduate Studies, Concordia University. Neurological Health Charities Canada: Bruce Ireland, Caregiver. YWCA Canada: Ann Decter, Director, Advocacy and Public Policy. Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada: David T. Barnard, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Manitoba. Canadian Alliance of Student Associations: Travis Gordon, Chair. Canadian Medical Association: Chris Simpson, President. Canadian National Institute for the Blind: Victoria Nolan, Volunteer; Andrew Martin, Senior Project Director, Centre for Equitable Library Access. Childcare Resource and Research Unit (CRRU): Martha Friendly, Executive Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations 2014.

Jim Mann, Roberta Jamieson, Graham Carr, Bruce Ireland and Ann Decter made statements and answered questions.

At 4:15 p.m., Nathan Cullen took the Chair.

At 4:50 p.m., James Rajotte took the Chair.

At 4:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

David T. Barnard, Travis Gordon, Chris Simpson, Victoria Nolan and Martha Friendly made statements and, with Andrew Martin, answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

At 5:54 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
