The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 11:44 a.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Paul Dewar, Marc Garneau, Peter Goldring, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Hélène Laverdière, Romeo Saganash, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and Bernard Trottier.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; Brian Hermon, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Christian Children's Fund of Canada: Mark Lukowski, Chief Executive Officer. YMCA Canada: Patricia Pelton, Member, YMCA Canada World Relationships Committee; Mary Anne Roche, Vice-President, Global Initiatives and Governance. ChildFund Alliance: Sarah Stevenson, United Nations Representative.

 

Hélène Laverdière gave notice of the following motion:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, with a particular focus on the influx of Syrian refugees into Lebanon, including the impact this population is having on the host community, and that, following the completion of this study, the Committee reports its findings back to the House.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the Protection of Children and Youth in Developing Countries.
 

Patricia Pelton and Mary Anne Roche made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Mark Lukowski, by videoconference from Markham, Ontario, made a statement and, with Mary Anne Roche, Patricia Pelton and Sarah Stevenson, by videoconference from New York, New York, answered questions.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
