The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, David Anderson, Paul Dewar, Marc Garneau, Peter Goldring, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Romeo Saganash and Gary Ralph Schellenberger.

 

Acting Members present: Fin Donnelly for Romeo Saganash, Guy Lauzon for Lois Brown and Mike Wallace for Nina Grewal.

 

Associate Members present: Scott Reid.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst; Erin Shaw, Analyst; Miguel Bernal-Castillero, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 7, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the situation in Syria.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:43 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertook a study of the report on Sexual Violence Against Women Used Systematically as a Weapon of War in the Democratic Republic of Congo, adopted on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: “A Weapon of War: Rape and Sexual Violence Against Women in the Democratic Republic of Congo – Canada’s Role in Taking Action and Ending Impunity”.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
