The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Joe Daniel, Chungsen Leung, Costas Menegakis, Ted Opitz, Jasbir Sandhu, Devinder Shory, Rathika Sitsabaiesan and David Tilson.

 

Acting Members present: Jay Aspin for Devinder Shory, Ted Hsu for Hon. John McCallum and Hon. John McKay for Hon. John McCallum.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Bar Association: Christopher Veeman, Executive Member, National Immigration Law Section; Barbara Jackman, Member, National Immigration Law Section; Kerri Froc, Staff Lawyer, Law Reform and Equality. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the subject matter of Bill C-24, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

Richard Kurland, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, Christopher Veeman, Barbara Jackman, Kerri Froc and Robin Seligman made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Martin Collacott, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, David Matas and Debbie Douglas made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
