The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 8:50 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Aubin, Olivia Chow, Hon. Denis Coderre, Pierre Poilievre, Blake Richards, Mike Sullivan, Lawrence Toet, Merv Tweed and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: John Carmichael for Mark Adler, Élaine Michaud for Isabelle Morin and Ted Opitz for Ed Holder.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Nova Bus, a Division of Volvo Group Canada, Inc.: René Allen, Vice-President , Product Management and Strategy, Business Development; Jean-Pierre Baracat, Vice-President, Business Development. New Flyer Industries Inc.: Chris Stoddart, Vice-President of Engineering.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 26, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of Innovative Transportation Technologies.
 

Jean-Pierre Baracat, René Allen and Chris Stoddart made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:08 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Committee resumed the debate on the motion moved by Élaine Michaud on May 17, 2012, which read as follows:

That, the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure & Communities call on the Government to amend the provisions of the Aeronautics Act related to the development of new aerodromes, to require that developers consult with local authorities and neighbouring property owners, ensure compliance with provincial and municipal legislation governing land use and municipal planning, and obtain approval from municipal and provincial governments before the development of a new aerodrome is formally considered; and that the Committee report this motion to the House.

and on the amendment of Olivia Chow which read as follows:

That the motion be amended by deleting the words “and obtain approval from municipal and provincial governments before the development of a new aerodrome is formally considered”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Olivia Chow and it was negatived on the following recorded division: YEAS: Robert Aubin, Olivia Chow, Denis Coderre, Élaine Michaud, Mike Sullivan — 5; NAYS: John Carmichael, Ted Opitz, Pierre Poilievre, Blake Richards, Lawrence Toet, Jeff Watson — 6.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:YEAS: Robert Aubin, Olivia Chow, Denis Coderre, Élaine Michaud, Mike Sullivan — 5; NAYS: John Carmichael, Ted Opitz, Pierre Poilievre, Blake Richards, Lawrence Toet, Jeff Watson — 6.
