The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 8:49 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Olivia Chow, Hon. Denis Coderre, Ed Holder, Isabelle Morin, Jamie Nicholls, Pierre Poilievre, Blake Richards, Mike Sullivan, Lawrence Toet, Merv Tweed and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Wai Young for Mark Adler.

 

In attendance: Parliamentary Information and Research Service: Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Mitch Davies, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Science and Innovation Sector; Gerard Peets, Acting Director General, Marketplace Framework Policy Branch, Strategic Policy Sector; Mona Frendo, Director, Policy Coordination and Regulatory Affairs, Strategic Policy Sector. Department of Transport: Kristine Burr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Policy Group; Marc Fortin, Regional Director General, Atlantic Region; Jutta Paczulla, Director, Innovation Policy; Marc Prévost, Director, Transportation Development Centre.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Jamie Nicholls moved, — That in order to ensure the economic competitiveness of the City of Montreal, the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities ask the Government of Canada to immediately commit to funding the Train de l’Ouest, as requested by the Government of Quebec, and that the Committee report this motion back to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Jeff Watson moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

Pierre Poilievre moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

Olivia Chow moved, — That the motion be deferred until the Quebec government has submitted an application for infrastructure funding.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 10; NAYS: 1.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 26, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of Innovative Transportation Technologies.
 

Mitch Davies, Gerard Peets and Kristine Burr made statements and answered questions.
