The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a televised session at 1:04 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Nina Grewal, Russ Hiebert, Wayne Marston, Ève Péclet, Scott Reid and David Sweet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford, Analyst; Erin Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: One Free World International: Majed El Shafie, Founder and President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Thursday, November 3, 2011, the Subcommittee resumed its study on the persecution of the Copt community in Egypt and Christian minorities in Iraq and Iran.
 

Majed El Shafie made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

On motion of David Sweet, it was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite Dr. Massouda Jalal and her associates to appear before the Subcommittee to discuss the issue of women’s rights in Afghanistan; and

That the meeting take place to coincide with Dr. Jalal’s travels to Canada.

 
The Subcommittee resumed its consideration of the persecution of the Copt community in Egypt and Christian minorities in Iraq and Iran.
 

Majed El Shafie made a closing statement.

 

At 2:03 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
