The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Leon Benoit, Blaine Calkins, Claude Gravelle, Peter Julian, Ryan Leef, Laurin Liu, David J. McGuinty and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Dennis Bevington for Jamie Nicholls and Nina Grewal for Royal Galipeau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Milana Simikian, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers: Bob Bleaney, Vice-President, External Relations; Greg Stringham, Vice-President, Markets and Oil Sands; Dan Wicklum, Chief Executive, Canada's Oil Sands Innovation Alliance. Petroleum Services Association of Canada: Mark Salkeld, President and Chief Executive Officer; Wally Kozak, Engineer Chief, Global Services, Calfrac Well Services Ltd.; Mark Bentsen, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cathedral Energy Services Ltd. Pembina Institute: Tim Weis, Director, Renewable Energy and Efficiency Policy. Climate Change Capital: James Cameron, Chaiman.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, to appear before the Committee regarding the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2012-13 on or before December, 4, 2012, and that this meeting be televised.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of innovation in the energy sector, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 31,500 be adopted.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 4, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of innovation in the energy sector.
 

Bob Bleaney, Dan Wicklum, by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta, Mark Salkeld, by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta, James Cameron, by videoconference from London, United Kingdom, and Tim Weis, by videoconference from Edmonton, Alberta, made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
