Meeting No. 7

Monday, October 17, 2011

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Christopherson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jay Aspin, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Guy Caron, David Christopherson, Earl Dreeshen, Matthew Dubé, Bryan Hayes, Daryl Kramp, Andrew Saxton and Bev Shipley.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alex Smith, Analyst.

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: John Wiersema, Interim Auditor General. Treasury Board Secretariat: Michelle d'Auray, Secretary of the Treasury Board of Canada; Jim Ralston, Comptroller General of Canada; Bill Matthews, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

The Chair presented the Third Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendation:

1. That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee undertake a study of Chapter 4, “Programs for First Nations on Reserves” of the 2011 Status Report of the Auditor General of Canada; and that the usual witnesses be invited to appear on Wednesday, October 19, 2011.

On motion of Daryl Kramp, it was agreed, — That the Third Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be concurred in.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, October 3, 2011, the Committee proceeded to a briefing with the Interim Auditor General of Canada, the Secretary of the Treasury Board of Canada and the Comptroller General of Canada.

John Wiersema, Michelle d'Auray, Bill Matthews and James Ralston made statements and answered questions.

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
