The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D. Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Tyrone Benskin, Corneliu Chisu, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Pierre Dionne Labelle, Royal Galipeau, Yvon Godin, Jacques Gourde, Élaine Michaud, Erin O'Toole and Bernard Trottier.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst; Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Alexandrine Latendresse, M.P., Louis-Saint-Laurent. Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada: Marie-France Kenny, President; Diane Côté, Director, Community and Government Liaison. Quebec Community Groups Network: Stephen D. Thompson, Director, Policy, Research and Public Affairs; James Shea, Member, Board of Directors.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, February 27, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-419, An Act respecting language skills.
 

Alexandrine Latendresse made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Marie-France Kenny and Stephen D. Thompson made statements and, with James Shea, answered questions.

 

At 5:20 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

On motion of Erin O'Toole, it was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 3,900, for the study of Bill C-419, An Act respecting language skills, be adopted.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
