The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, John Carmichael, Dan Harris, Hon. Mike Lake, Hélène LeBlanc, Phil McColeman, Hon. Geoff Regan, Kennedy Stewart, David Sweet, Glenn Thibeault and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Rick Norlock for Cheryl Gallant and John Rafferty for Dan Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, May 1, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the Intellectual Property Regime in Canada.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report a dissenting opinion from the Committee members of the New Democratic Party, provided that it is no more than 10 pages in length in Arial 12 font, and submitted electronically, in both official languages, to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013.

 

At 3:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:49 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Intellectual Property Regime in Canada".

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee print 50 copies of the Report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and Analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair, or his designate, present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 4:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:17 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee consider the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2012-13 under INDUSTRY and that, pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee consider the Main Estimates 2013-14 under INDUSTRY, and that the Committee invite the Minister of Industry; the Minister of State (Science and Technology) (Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario); the Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism); and the Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency to attend a one-hour, televised meeting each on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 and on Thursday, March 7, 2013.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee devote three meetings to study broadband and internet access across Canada.

 

At 5:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
