The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, John Carmichael, Dan Harris, Hon. Mike Lake, Hélène LeBlanc, Phil McColeman, Hon. Geoff Regan, Kennedy Stewart, David Sweet, Glenn Thibeault and Mike Wallace.

Acting Members present: Greg Rickford for Cheryl Gallant.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst ; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

Witnesses: Research in Motion: Morgan Elliott, Director, Government Relations; Robert Guay, Director, Intellectual Property Operations. Canada's Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (Rx & D): Declan Hamill, Chief of Staff and Vice-President, Legal Affairs; Brigitte Nolet, Director, Government Relations and Health Policy, Specialty Division, Hoffmann-La Roche Limited. TEC Edmonton: Chris Lumb, Chief Executive Officer. Genome Canada: Pierre Meulien, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, May 1st, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the Intellectual Property Regime in Canada.

Brigitte Nolet, Chris Lumb, Pierre Meulien and Morgan Elliott made statements and, with Robert Guay and Declan Hamill, answered questions.

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
