The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Candice Bergen for Kellie Leitch and Alexandre Boulerice for François Lapointe.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2013-14: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT referred to the Committee on Monday, February 25, 2013.
 

The Chair calls Vote 1 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT.

 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:34 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Ron Parker and Douglas Stewart made statements and, with Karen Jackson, answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Brad Butt moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Candice Bergen, Brad Butt, Joe Daniel, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Devinder Shory — 6; NAYS: Alexandre Boulerice, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Chris Charlton, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner — 5.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair be authorized to write a letter to the Chair of the Finance Committee recommending the approval of clauses 161 to 166 without amendments of Bill C-60, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures, as referred to this Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed operational budget in the amount of a maximum of $6,400, for the Committee's study of of the subject matter of clauses 161 to 166 of Bill C-60, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures, be adopted.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 18, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of opportunities for older persons in the workforce.
 

Susan Eng and Jean-Luc Racine made statements and, with Michael Nicin, answered questions.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
