The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, François Lapointe, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: François Choquette for Chris Charlton, Olivia Chow for Chris Charlton, Rob Clarke for Phil McColeman, Earl Dreeshen for Brad Butt and Brent Rathgeber for Phil McColeman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Alexis Conrad, Director General, Skills and Employment Branch; Frank Vermaeten, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Skills and Employment Branch. Department of Citizenship and Immigration: David Manicom, Director General, Immigration Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of the subject matter of clauses 161 to 166 (Immigration and Refugee Protection Act) of Bill C-60, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures.
 

Frank Vermaeten made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Joe Daniel moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Brad Butt, Rob Clarke, Joe Daniel, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Devinder Shory — 6; NAYS: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, François Choquette, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, François Lapointe — 5.

 

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of a maximum of $21, 000 for the Committee's study “Engaging Experience: Opportunities for Older Persons in the Workforce” be adopted, and that arrangements be made for witnesses based outside the National Capital region to appear by videoconference, whenever possible, to minimise travel expenses.

 

At 12:42 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
