The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Aubin for Ryan Cleary and Manon Perreault for François Lapointe.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Centre for Addiction and Mental Health: Susan Eckerle Curwood, Manager, Research and Knowledge Development, Community Support and Research Unit. Mental Health Commission of Canada: Aaron Levo, Director, External Affairs. Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation: Elisse Zack, Executive Director, Episodic Disabilities Network; Tammy Yates, Coordinator, Episodic Disabilities Initiatives. Brantford Volkswagen: Jeannette Leigh, Co-Owner; Gregg Moore, Co-owner. Tim Hortons Inc.: Jill Ramseyer, Manager, Health and Wellness, Oakville Head Office. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Mathew Wilson, Vice-President, National Policy.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)d) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, January 31, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of exploring employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
 

Aaron Levo, Susan Eckerle Curwood and Tammy Yates made statements and, with Elisse Zack, answered questions.

 

At 11:58 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Mathew Wilson, Jill Ramseyer and Jeannette Leigh made statements and, with Gregg Moore, answered questions.

 

At 12:43 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Brad Butt moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Brad Butt, Joe Daniel, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Devinder Shory — 6; NAYS: Robert Aubin, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Chris Charlton, Rodger Cuzner, Manon Perreault — 5.

 

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:53 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee concludes hearing witnesses on its current study entitled: “Exploring Employment Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities”;

The Committee then begin a new study entitled: “Engaging Experience: Opportunities for Older Persons in the Workforce”;

That this study focus on employment opportunities for older persons and the supports available to them through the federal government;

That the Committee begin this new study at the meeting that follows the issuance of drafting instructions for its current study with a briefing from departmental officials;

That at least eight meetings be scheduled for this study before the summer adjournment;

While recognizing that business referred to the Committee by the House such as Government legislation or Estimates will take precedence in scheduling over this study, as well as business relating to the Centennial Flame Research Award;

And, that the review of the reports for the Committee’s earlier studies will need to be scheduled from time to time with the objective of tabling those reports before the House rises for the summer.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
