The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Colin Carrie, Hon. Hedy Fry, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Dany Morin, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith and David Wilks.

Acting Members present: Jean Crowder for Libby Davies and Parm Gill for Patrick Brown.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martha Butler, Analyst ; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health.

Witnesses: Public Health Agency of Canada: Krista Outhwaite, Associate Deputy Minister; Gregory Taylor, Deputy Chief Public Health Officer. Canadian Institutes of Health Research: James Roberge, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice-President, Resource Planning and Management Portfolio. Department of Health: Glenda Yeates, Deputy Minister.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2013-14: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 under HEALTH, referred to the Committee on Monday, February 25, 2013.

The Chair calls Vote 1 under HEALTH.

The Minister made a statement and, with Glenda Yeates and Krista Outhwaite, answered questions.

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.
