The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met by videoconference at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room C-120, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Ryan Cleary, Patricia Davidson, Fin Donnelly, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Randy Kamp, Ryan Leef, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Robert Sopuck, Jonathan Tremblay and Rodney Weston.

 

Acting Members present: John Carmichael for Bryan Hayes.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kristen E. Courtney, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: British Columbia Salmon Farmers Association: Mary Ellen Walling, Executive Director. AgriMarine Industries Inc.: Robert Walker, President. Mainstream Canada: Peter McKenzie, Veterinarian and Fish Health Manager. As an individual: Peter Tyedmers, Associate Professor, School for Resource and Environmental Studies, Faculty of Management, Dalhousie University.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of closed containment salmon aquaculture.
 

Mary Ellen Walling made a statement and answered questions.

 

Robert Walker and Peter McKenzie, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Peter Tyedmers, by videoconference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Mike Allen, it was agreed, — That for the study on Closed Containment Salmon Aquaculture, the Committee travel to Shepherdstown, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. (USA).

 

On motion of Lawrence MacAulay, it was agreed, — That, in relation to the study on Closed Containment Salmon Aquaculture, the proposed travel budget in the amount of $62 559.60 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
