HOUSE FINANCE COMMITTEE RELEASES REPORT ON TAX INCENTIVES FOR CHARITABLE GIVING
Ottawa, February 11, 2013 -
Today, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance released a report entitled Tax Incentives for Charitable Giving in Canada. The report contains 12 recommendations pertaining to tax incentives, public awareness, the administrative burden on charitable organizations and transparency.
“This report has given the Finance Committee the opportunity to participate in the policy debate about charitable giving in Canada,” stated Mr. Rajotte, Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Leduc and Chair of the Committee. “I am pleased that our Committee’s study of tax incentives for charitable giving, and the subsequent report and its recommendations, can join the larger dialogue on this important topic.”
The study of tax incentives for charitable giving by the Finance Committee stemmed from a motion introduced by Mr. Peter Braid, Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo, and adopted in the House of Commons on March 2, 2011.
“I would like to thank Mr. Braid for bringing this worthwhile topic to the attention of the House of Commons, as well as the witnesses who appeared before the Committee on this issue. They presented a wide range of opinions regarding charitable organizations and charitable giving in Canada,” said Mr. Rajotte. “Their thoughts and recommendations were an integral part of our preparation of this report, which is available online for all Canadians to read and review.”
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance held 8 meetings during which 36 organizations and 5 individuals appeared prior to drafting the report.
