The Standing Committee on Finance met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Hon. Scott Brison, Robert Chisholm, Alain Giguère, Shelly Glover, Brian Jean, Hoang Mai, Cathy McLeod, James Rajotte and Dave Van Kesteren.

Acting Members present: Peter Braid for Randy Hoback and Raymond Côté for Peter Julian.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst ; Brett Stuckey, Analyst.

Witnesses: As an individual: Brigitte Alepin, Chartered Accountant, Tax Policy Specialist, Author. BMO Nesbitt Burns: John Waters, Vice President, Head of Technical Expertise, Wealth Group. Canadian Taxpayers Federation: Gregory Thomas, Federal and Ontario Director. Drache Aptowitzer LLP: Adam Aptowitzer. Scotiabank: Malcolm Burrows, Head, Philanthropic Advisory Services, Scotia Private Client Group. TD Bank Financial Group: Craig Alexander, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of tax incentives for charitable donations.

Brigitte Alepin, John Waters, Gregory Thomas, Adam Aptowitzer, Malcolm Burrows and Craig Alexander made statements and answered questions.

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
