The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 11:46 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Anne-Marie Day, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Hon. Judy Sgro and Jean Crowder for Sana Hassainia.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martha Butler, Analyst; Havi Echenberg, Analyst. House of Commons: Christine Holke David, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Assembly of First Nations: Jody Wilson-Raybould, Regional Chief, British Columbia; Karen Campbell, Director, Research and Policy Coordination. First Nations Lands Advisory Board: Robert Louie, Chairman, Chief, Westbank First Nation; Austin Bear, Director, Prairie Region; Chair, First Nations Resource Centre; Leah George-Wilson, Director, British Columbia; Co-Chair, British Columbia Summit; Bill Henderson, Senior Legal Advisor. National Association of Friendship Centres: Jeffrey Cyr, Executive Director. Young Women's Christian Association: Kim van der Woerd, Board Member, Metro Vancouver.

 

It was agreed, — That the meeting of today be extended until 1:15 p.m. and that the time be equally divided amongst both panels of witnesses.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 17, 2013, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-2, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on those reserves.
 

Jody Wilson-Raybould and Robert Louie made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:41 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Jeffrey Cyr and Kim van der Woerd, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 1:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
