The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the President, Niki Ashton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Charmaine Borg, Mylène Freeman, Sana Hassainia, Ed Holder, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Public Health Agency of Canada: Marla Israel, Acting Director General, Centre for Health Promotion; Cathy Bennett, Acting Director, Division of Aging and Seniors, Centre for Health Promotion.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

1. That for the study on the abuse of older women, the meetings be divided into two (2) one-hour panels, and that each panel consist of no more than three (3) groups or individuals, and that the Committee adopt the following work plan for its study:

It was agreed, — That the report of the Subcommittee be concurred in.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $32,450.00, for its study of Abuse of Older Women be adopted.

 

At 3:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee commenced its study of Abuse of Older Women.
 

Marla Israel made a statement and, with Cathy Bennett, answered questions.

 

At 5:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
