The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 8:50 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Paul Dewar, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Ève Péclet, Romeo Saganash, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Dave Van Kesteren and John Williamson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, the Committee resumed its study on the role of the private sector in achieving Canada's international development interests.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 10:20 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:23 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold a briefing on the situation in Syria and that officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade be invited to appear as well as other witnesses (to be determined).

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet with representatives from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet with the Foreign Minister of Denmark, Villy Søvndal, on November 29, 2012.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee begin consideration of Bill C-383, An Act to amend the International Boundary Waters Treaty Act and the International River Improvements Act, on Thursday, October 25 and that the sponsor of the bill, Mr. Larry Miller, be invited to appear along with other witnesses (to be determined).

 

At 10:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
