The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Pierre-Luc Dusseault, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Andrews, Charlie Angus, Charmaine Borg, Alexandre Boulerice, Brad Butt, Blaine Calkins, John Carmichael, Patricia Davidson, Dean Del Mastro, Earl Dreeshen and Pierre-Luc Dusseault.

 

Acting Members present: Merv Tweed for Colin Mayes and John Weston for John Carmichael.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dara Lithwick, Analyst; Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Warren Everson, Senior Vice-President, Policy. Marketing Research and Intelligence Association: Annie Pettit, Vice-President; Brendan Wycks, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of privacy and social media.
 

Warren Everson, Annie Pettit and Brendan Wycks made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Dean Del Mastro moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Brad Butt, Blaine Calkins, Patricia Davidson, Dean Del Mastro, Earl Dreeshen, Merv Tweed, John Weston — 7; NAYS: Scott Andrews, Charlie Angus, Charmaine Borg, Alexandre Boulerice — 4.

 

At 12:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Fourth Report of the Committee be adopted, as amended, and that the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Privacy and Social Media, the proposed budget in the amount of $63,998.30 for the Committee’s travel to Washington D.C. in the fall of 2012 be adopted, and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Privacy and Social Media, the proposed budget in the amount of $38,648.90 for the Committee’s travel to Washington D.C. in the fall of 2012 be adopted, and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
