The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mark Warawa, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, François Choquette, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, Laurin Liu, James Lunney, Michelle Rempel, Robert Sopuck, Lise St-Denis, Lawrence Toet, Mark Warawa and Stephen Woodworth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Nursery Landscape Association: Owen Vanstone, Board Member, Manager, Sales and Marketing, Vanstone Nurseries. Invasive Species Council of BC: Gail Wallin, Executive Director. Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters: Terry Quinney, Provincial Manager, Fish and Wildlife Services. Ontario Invasive Plant Council: Rachel Gagnon, Coordinator.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of invasive terrestrial species.
 

Owen Vanstone, Gail Wallin and Terry Quinney made statements and, with Rachel Gagnon, answered questions.

 

Laurin Liu moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee hear Karen Dodds, Assistant Deputy Minister at Environment Canada, no later than Thursday, December 8, 2011, regarding the cuts to ozone layer monitoring initiatives.

Debate arose thereon.

 

On motion of Michelle Rempel, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “Thursday, December 8, 2011, regarding the cuts to” with the words “Tuesday, December 13, 2011, regarding the plans for”.

 

On motion of Kirsty Duncan, it was agreed, — That, in the English version, the motion be amended by deleting the word “layer”; and

That, in the French version, the motion be amended by replacing the words “la couche d'ozone” with the word “l'ozone”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee hear Karen Dodds, Assistant Deputy Minister at Environment Canada, no later than Tuesday, December 13, 2011, regarding the plans for ozone monitoring initiatives.

 

At 12:52 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
