The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don Davies, Rick Dykstra, Sadia Groguhé, Roxanne James, Matthew Kellway, Kevin Lamoureux, Ted Opitz, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, David Tilson and John Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Royal Galipeau for Costas Menegakis, Joe Preston for Chungsen Leung and Devinder Shory for John Weston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of the immigration application backlogs in light of the Action Plan for Faster Immigration.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Cutting the queue: reducing Canada's immigration backlogs and wait times".

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report dissenting and/or supplementary opinions from each political party and submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than Monday, February 13, 2012, at 5:00 p.m.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study "Standing on Guard for Thee: Ensuring that Canada's Immigration System is Secure", the proposed budget in the amount of $37,700 be adopted.

 

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
