The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Jasbir Sandhu, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Meat Council: Ray Price, President. Maple Leaf Foods Inc.: Barry Sutton, Vice-President, International Sales. Savia Wine Agency: Pablo Garrido, Owner. Soak Wash Inc.: Jacqueline Sava, Director of Possibilites and Founder; Chris Wilkinson, Director of Sales and Operations.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Wayne Easter moved, — That the Committee receive a briefing on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on the subject of the Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the People's Republic of China for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments and request that, in the event that any questions by Members remain unanswered at the end of the meeting, written responses be submitted at a later date.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of a comprehensive and high-level economic partnership agreement (EPA) with Japan.
 

Barry Sutton and Ray Price made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Jacqueline Sava and Pablo Garrido made statements and, with Chris Wilkinson, answered questions.

 

At 5:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
