The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Jasbir Sandhu, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Chief Analyst; Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Steve Verheul, Chief Trade Negotiator, Canada-European Union; Ana Renart, Deputy Chief Trade Negotiator, Canada-European Union. Pulse Canada: Gordon Bacon, Chief Executive Officer. Manitoba Beef Producers: Ray Armbruster, Director and President; Cam Dahl, General Manager; Lauren Stone, Policy Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union.
 

Steve Verheul made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of a comprehensive and high-level economic partnership agreement (EPA) with Japan.
 

Ray Armbruster and Cam Dahl, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Gordon Bacon made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Wayne Easter moved, — That, in the context of its study on the report on the operation of the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act, the Committee report to the House with recommendations based on its hearings and that the Government be requested to table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 6.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:58 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That, on behalf of the Committee, the Chair be authorized to select dates during the second half of October, 2012, for travel to Japan in relation to its study on a comprehensive and high-level economic partnership agreement (EPA) with Japan.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
