The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, Raymond Côté, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Brian Masse, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Ève Péclet, Mathieu Ravignat, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Mark Adler for Ron Cannan and Jay Aspin for Bev Shipley.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Chief, Macroeconomics and Trade; Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC): Jeff Vogt, Legal Advisor, Department of Human and Trade Union Rights. Canadian Environmental Law Association: Theresa McClenaghan, Executive Director and Counsel. Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights: Charles Kernaghan, Director.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, March 5, 2012, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 2, 2012, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-23, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
 

Jeff Vogt, by videoconference from Brussels, Belgium, and Theresa McClenaghan, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Charles Kernaghan, by videoconference from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
