The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Alex Atamanenko, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Blake Richards, Brian Storseth, Merv Tweed, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Hoang Mai for Ruth Ellen Brosseau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Vandaele Seeds Ltd.: Cal Vandaele, President. Western Feed Grain Development Co-op Ltd.: David Rourke, Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of agricultural and agri-food products supply chain (grains and oilseeds).
 

David Rourke and Cal Vandaele, by videoconference from Brandon, Manitoba, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:21 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:22 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on Canada-China agri-food trade relations.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee travel to China, in May 2013, in relation to its study on Canada-China agri-food trade relations.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $202,390.27, for the Committee’s travel to China in May 2013 in relation to its study on Canada-China agri-food trade relations be adopted, and that the Chair present said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 12:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
