The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Greg Kerr, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Sean Casey, Sylvain Chicoine, Bryan Hayes, Greg Kerr, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Irene Mathyssen, Erin O'Toole, Peter Stoffer and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: David Christopherson for Manon Perreault and Mathieu Ravignat for Manon Perreault.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst. House of Commons: David-Andrés Novoa, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: United States Department of Veterans Affairs: Thomas J. Murphy, Director, Compensation Service, Veterans Benefits Administration; Robert T. Reynolds, Director, Benefits Assistance Service, Veterans Benefits Administration.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, the Committee resumed its comparative analysis study on the Services and Benefits offered to Veterans by Canada and its Allies.
 

Thomas J. Murphy and Robert T. Reynolds, by videoconference from Washington, D.C., made statements answered questions.

 

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 8, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill S-213, An Act respecting a national day of remembrance to honour Canadian veterans of the Korean War.
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of the Preamble and Clause 1, Short Title, were postponed.

The Chair called Clause 2.

 

Clause 2 carried.

 

Clause 3 carried.

 

Clause 1, Short Title, carried.

 

The Preamble carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday May 21, and on Thursday May 23, 2013 to study the subject matter of clauses 156 to 160 of Bill C-60, An Act to Implement Certain Provisions of the Budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures and that the Committee write a letter to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance to convey recommendations, including any suggested amendments, in both official languages, in relation to the provisions considered by them, not later than 9 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2013.

 

At 10:15 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
