The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.


By unanimous consent, it was ordered, — That, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of the House, Bill C-36, An Act respecting the safety of consumer products, be deemed concurred in at report stage and, when a Member from each recognized party has spoken to the motion for third reading of Bill C-36, or when no Member rises to speak, the Bill be deemed read a third time and passed.

Private Members' Business

At 5:30 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

Mr. Rajotte (Edmonton—Leduc), seconded by Mr. Calandra (Oak Ridges—Markham), moved, — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should continue to address the rising financial and human costs of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia in Canada by ensuring, now and in the future, that its programs and policy development related to this issue continue to recognize: (a) the right to dignity and compassion of patients stricken by such conditions; (b) the emotional and psychological toll on family members and friends of patients afflicted by such conditions; (c) the increasing costs imposed on public health systems by the treatment of such conditions; and (d) the role played by such civil organizations as the Alzheimer Society of Canada and Neurological Health Charities Canada in furthering our understanding of the impacts of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. (Private Members' Business M-574)

Mr. Malo (Verchères—Les Patriotes), seconded by Mr. Lessard (Chambly—Borduas), moved the following amendment, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “the government” the following:

“, with regard to matters under the Parliament of Canada's legislative jurisdiction,”.
