The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in camera at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Leon Benoit, Paule Brunelle, Nathan Cullen, Claude Guimond, Richard M. Harris, Hon. Geoff Regan and Alan Tonks.

 

Acting Members present: Cheryl Gallant for Russ Hiebert.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sam Banks; Mohamed Zakzouk.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in public.

 

At 9:04 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:04 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Nathan Cullen moved, — That the Committee call witnesses from British Petroleum, the National Energy Board, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Nunavut tunngavik Inc., Inuvialuit Game Council and other involved proponents on to testify on the status of emergency response assets and the adequacy of the current regulatory regime of offshore oil and gas drilling and production in Canada in preventing an economic and environmental disaster such as the now occurring in the Gulf of Mexico.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the witnesses as suggested in Nathan Cullen's motion to appear on Thursday, May 13, 2010 and, that the members provide the Clerk with their prioritized list of witnesses by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That a second meeting on this issue be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, following which, the Committee will decide on any further meetings which may be required.

 

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:04 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March 16, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the Status of the NRU Reactor and the Supply of Medical Isotopes.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 10:54 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
