OGGO Committee Meeting

The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in camera at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. John McKay, presiding.

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed, — That the draft report be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Implementation of the Budget Freeze".

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report a dissenting opinion from the Conservative Party of Canada provided that it is no more than four pages in length and submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 10, 2011.

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

It was agreed, — That the Committee insist on the translation of all documents provided by the Department of Public Works and Government Services in response to the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, provided that the material currently available in one official language be made available for members and their staff at the clerk's office.

At 11:15 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:16 a.m., the sitting resumed in a televised session.

Siobhan Coady moved, — That, with regard to government expenditures on advertising for fiscal year 2010-2011, the Committee request the government, through the Privy Council Office, to provide it with the following information, by each of the following departments or organizations, namely Infrastructure Canada, Public Works and Government Services, Canadian Heritage, Human Resources and Skills Development, Finance, Citizenship and Immigration, Fisheries and Oceans, Transport, Health, Industry, Privy Council Office, Canada Revenue Agency—, in electronic form, within 5 business days and in both official languages: (1) how has the money been allocated; (2) what government program or service was advertised; (3) in what medium (print, radio, television, other); (4) what amount was spent; (5) in what geographic area; and, in general, (6) what is the total amount spent on advertising by the government for the said the fiscal year.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 10; NAYS: 0.

Anne Marie Smart made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
