The Standing Committee on National Defence met in a televised videoconference session at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, the Hon. Bryon Wilfert, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Peter Braid, Jack Harris, Laurie Hawn, LaVar Payne and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Bouchard for Pascal-Pierre Paillé, Blaine Calkins for Cheryl Gallant, Mario Laframboise for Pascal-Pierre Paillé, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Scott Simms for Hon. Keith Martin and Mike Wallace for Ray Boughen.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of the next generation of fighter aircraft.
 

The Honourable Peter MacKay, the Honourable Tony Clement and the Honourable Rona Ambrose made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:03 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Lieutenant-General J.P.A. Deschamps, Dan Ross and Tom Ring made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Dominic LeBlanc moved, — That given the number of witnesses that are relevant to this study, the committee schedule further hearings on the issue of the next generation of fighter aircraft.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

Mike Wallace moved, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $21,500, in relation to the study on the next generation of fighter aircraft, be adopted.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Thursday, September 23, 2010.
