The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Vice-Chair, Hon. Bryon Wilfert, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Ray Boughen, Peter Braid, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, LaVar Payne and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Jack Harris, Blaine Calkins for Laurie Hawn and Hon. Anita Neville for Hon. Keith Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Douglas L. Bland, Chair of the Defence Studies Program, School of Policy Studies, Queen's University. Francophone Research Network on Peace Operations: Jocelyn Coulon, Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the role of Canadian soldiers in international peace operations after 2011.
 

Douglas L. Bland and Jocelyn Coulon made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:12 p.m., Claude Bachand took the Chair.

 

At 12:16 p.m., Hon. Bryon Wilfert took the Chair.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Claude Bachand moved, — That the Chair organize a press conference to announce the presentation of the Committee’s report on Arctic sovereignty to the House of Commons on Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

Debate arose thereon.

 

It was agreed, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “on Tuesday, May 11, 2010” with the words “when the report is tabled after the Committee’s travel to the North”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Chair organize a press conference to announce the presentation of the Committee’s report on Arctic sovereignty to the House of Commons when the report is tabled after the Committee’s travel to the North.

 

At 12:51 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
