The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Steven Blaney, Sylvie Boucher, Royal Galipeau, Bernard Généreux, Yvon Godin, Jacques Gourde, Monique Guay, Guy Lauzon, Brian Murphy, Richard Nadeau and Lise Zarac.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst; Nicolas Auclair, Analyst. House of Commons: Marie-France Renaud, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Morris Rosenberg, Deputy Minister; Roxanne Dubé, Director General and Champion of Official Languages, Corporate Secretariat; Monica Janecek, Director, Corporate Resourcing Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee resumed consideration of the 2009-2010 Annual Report (Volume II) of the Commissioner of Official Languages referred to the Committee on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.
 

Morris Rosenberg made a statement and, with Roxanne Dubé, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Mauril Bélanger moved, — That the Committee invite Ms. Liseanne Forand, Senior Associate Deputy Minister of the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development and Chief Operating Officer for Service Canada, along with the Official Languages Champion, in order to follow-up on the March 8th, 2011 meeting.

 

It was agreed, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “Champion” the following: “on Thursday, March 24, 2011,”.

 

By unanimous consent, after debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Committee invite Ms. Liseanne Forand, Senior Associate Deputy Minister of the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development and Chief Operating Officer for Service Canada, along with the Official Languages Champion, on Thursday, March 24, 2011, in order to follow-up on the March 8th, 2011 meeting.

 

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:10 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of the study of the development of linguistic duality in Northern Canada.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 10:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
