The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Steven Blaney, Royal Galipeau, Bernard Généreux, Monique Guay, Guy Lauzon, Brian Murphy, Richard Nadeau, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, Greg Rickford and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Claude Gravelle for Yvon Godin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst; Nicolas Auclair, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Library and Archives Canada: Daniel J. Caron, Librarian and Archivist; Mark Melanson, Senior Director General, Corporate Resourcing Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee resumed consideration of the 2009-2010 Annual Report (Volume II) of the Commissioner of Official Languages referred to the Committee on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.
 

Daniel J. Caron made a statement and, with Mark Melanson, answered questions.

 

At 9:42 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:46 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study on the Development of Linguistic Duality in Northern Canada.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the Development of Linguistic Duality in Northern Canada, the proposed budget in the amount of $99,598, for the Committee’s travel to Iqaluit, Nunavut be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the Development of Linguistic Duality in Northern Canada, the proposed budget in the amount of $144,771, for the Committee’s travel to Whitehorse, Yukon and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 9:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
