The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen St., the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bouchard, Peter Braid, Gordon Brown, Serge Cardin, Marc Garneau, Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, Anthony Rota, David Sweet, Dave Van Kesteren and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: John Rafferty for Brian Masse.

 

Other Members present: Luc Desnoyers.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Jonathan Allen, Director, Global Research, RBC Capital Markets; Warren Everson, Senior Vice-President, Policy. Forest Products Association of Canada: Andrew Casey, Vice-President, Public Affairs and International Trade. Canadian Labour Congress: Joel Harden, Pension Policy Advisor to the President. United Steelworkers: Joe Hanlon, President, Local 2693. As individuals: Paul Hanrieder, Professional Engineer; Melanie Johannink; Prabhakar Phatak; Tony Wacheski; Gladys Comeau.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 26, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-501, An Act to amend the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and other Acts (pension protection).
 

On motion of Robert Bouchard, it was agreed, — That the following witness: Gaston Carrière, President, Local 142, Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada be invited to appear in relation to Bill C-501.

 

Andrew Casey, Joel Harden, Warren Everson and Jonathan Allen made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Tony Wacheski, Joe Hanlon, Gladys Comeau, Prabhakar Phatak, Melanie Johannink and Paul Hanrieder made statements and answered questions.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
