The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met by teleconference at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Vice-Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Josée Beaudin, Ron Cannan, Rick Casson, Raymonde Folco, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Tony Martin, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Irwin Cotler for Michael John Savage and Roger Pomerleau for Yves Lessard.

 

Associate Members present: Justin Trudeau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst; Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.: Alastair Campbell, Senior Policy Advisor; Natan Obed, Director, Department of Social and Cultural Development.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the Federal Contribution to Reducing Poverty in Canada.
 

Alastair Campbell and Natan Obed, by teleconference from Iqaluit, Nunavut, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That Kristy J. Tymos be the laureate of the 2010 edition of the Centennial Flame Research Award and that a press release be published on the Committee's Web site to this effect.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the Federal Contribution to Reducing Poverty in Canada.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
