The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Josée Beaudin, Ron Cannan, Rick Casson, Raymonde Folco, Candice Hoeppner, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Tony Martin, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage and Maurice Vellacott.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Guy André, M.P., Berthier—Maskinongé; Yvon Lévesque, M.P., Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou. Conseil national des chômeurs et chômeuses: Pierre Céré, Spokesperson. Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec: Michel Ducharme, Vice-President. As an individual: Mario Pothier.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 3, 2010, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-395, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (labour dispute).
 

It was agreed, — That Yvon Lévesque, M.P., Abitibi-Baie James-Nunavik-Eeyou, be allowed to appear as a witness along with the invited witnesses, since he was the first sponsor of the Bill being studied by the Committee today.

 

Guy André made a statement and, with Yvon Lévesque, answered questions.

 

At 3:55 p.m., Candice Hoeppner took the Chair.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Rick Casson, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 4,400, for Bill C-395, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (labour dispute) be adopted.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 3, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-395, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (labour dispute).
 

Michel Ducharme and Pierre Céré made statements and, with Mario Pothier and Yvon Lévesque, answered questions.

 

At 5:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:15 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
