[English]

    Honourable members of the committee,

[Translation]

I see a quorum. We can therefore proceed to the election of a chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.
    Mr. Pacetti.

[English]

It has been moved by Massimo Pacetti that James Rajotte be elected as chair of the committee.

[Translation]

    Are there any further motions?
    Mr. Paillé.
I would like to second the motion.

[English]

Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and James Rajotte duly elected chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!

[Translation]

Before inviting Mr. Rajotte to take the chair, if it is the pleasure of the committee, we can now move to the election of the two vice-chairs.

[English]

I am now prepared to receive motions for first vice-chair.

[Translation]

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the first vice-chair shall be a member of the official opposition.
    Mr. Menzies.

[English]

I would like to nominate Massimo Pacetti.
It has been moved by Mr. Menzies that Massimo Pacetti be elected as first vice-chair of the committee.

[Translation]

    Are there any further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)

[English]

    There's more French now...[Inaudible--Editor]
Mr. Pacetti is duly elected first vice-chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
The Clerk: I am now prepared to receive motions for second vice-chair.

[Translation]

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the second vice-chair shall be a member of an opposition party other than the official opposition party.
    Mr. Carrier.
I would like to nominate Mr. Daniel Paillé, who does very good work.
Moved by Mr. Carrier that Daniel Paillé be elected second vice-chair of the committee.
    Are there any further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the room to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Paillé duly elected second vice-chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear! Hear!
    Thank you, my dear colleagues.

[English]

I'm a little surprised that Mr. Wallace thinks that Mr. Pagé speaks better French than I do.
I want to welcome all of you back. In particular, I want to officially welcome two members to the committee--Mr. Brison, the finance critic for the Liberal Party, and Mr. Szabo as well. Welcome to the committee.
We do have a very busy agenda today with the economists. We typically do the motions after the witnesses, but my understanding is that the four parties support the motion by Monsieur Paillé, perhaps with an amendment....
I am advised that we need to suspend for 30 seconds. Then we will move to the meeting.
Before I adjourn, I will ask the economists to come to the table. After that, we will deal with Monsieur Paillé's motion.
    The meeting is adjourned.
